It is exciting and busy here these two weeks with our guest soloists coming in to rehearse their parts for Vaughan Williams’s opera, The Pilgrim’s Progress. Gloriæ Dei Cantores is combining their work with the soloists as they get used to the staging and continue their musical preparations. The production is being performed in the Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans, MA and takes up virtually the full length of the church. The performance is being staged in the nave of the church, and the orchestra will be set up in the north aisle, behind the stage. To facilitate the ensemble between singers and orchestra, several large screens are set up behind the audience so that the singers can see the conductor via cameras and television monitors. Finally, the basic blocking is being rehearsed and videotaped so that the soloists can have a record of their work between now and the first performance in late October.
