Keith Lockhart
After numerous years of working with the Boston Pops, Keith Lockhart has conducted more than 600 concerts in Symphony Hall and around the world. Nineteen national tours, three overseas tours of Japan and Korea, performances at Carnegie Hall, thirty-eight television shows, along with guest conductor appearances with major symphony orchestras in Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, and other cities, have inspired audiences around the world and led to critical acclaim. In February 1995 he was appointed to the Boston Pops Orchestra, whose past leaders have included Arthur Fiedler and John Williams. In 1997 he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic and led his first major opera production, Douglas Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe with the Washington Opera. Since 1998, Mr. Lockhart has been music director of the Utah Symphony. With the Boston Pops he has recorded nine CDs and holds the Julian and Eunice Cohen Boston Pops Conductor’s Chair and the Germeshausen Family Boston Symphony Youth Concerts Conductor’s Chair. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from Boston Conservatory, Northeastern University, and his alma mater, Furman University in Greenville, SC.
